BE SAFE AROUND ANIMALS
Do!
Do let an animal sniff you before petting it.
Do pet an animal's side instead of the top of its head.
Do pet an animal gently.
Do use extreme caution around animals in pain or discomfort.
Do use extreme caution around un-neutered males.
Do use extreme caution around a mother and her babies.
Do always ask permission before petting a strange animal.
Do watch out for an animal showing signs of aggression:
barking, growling, snarling, ears back,
hissing, baring teeth, snapping or nipping, bristling hair or stiff legs.
Never!
Never tease an animal.
Never play rough with an animal.
Never play with an animal that is eating, sleeping, or chewing a toy.
Never disturb a mother caring for its young.
Never break up a fight between two animals.
Never pet an animal you don't know or doesn't know you.
If approached by a strange animal:
Say "Go Home!" in a low, firm voice.
Do not run and scream - the animal might chase and or catch you.
Do not stare into the animals eyes.
Do not move, Be a TREE
Any animal, if provoked, can bite, scratch, kick, or claw.
If an animal attacks:
Feed the animal your jacket, backpack, bicycle, or anything you can put between
yourself and the animal.
If you fall or end up on the ground, curl into a ball immediately.
Put your hands over your ears and your arms against your neck.
Do not move, scream, or roll around - Be a ROCK.
